Napenda Kuishi Rehabilitation Programme Trust Marks the Day of the African Child with Community Awareness Walk

Nairobi, Kenya — June 16, 2025

On the occasion of the International Day of the African ChildNapenda Kuishi Rehabilitation Programme Trust (NKT), a mission-driven initiative under the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus, organized a vibrant awareness walk through the streets of Dandora, Nairobi. The walk commenced at Boma Rescue Centre, located near the Dandora dumpsite.

A Collaborative Effort to Promote Child Rights

The event was led by the Director of NKT, Fr. Jean-Paul Muhandiro in collaboration with Mr. Thomas BettDeputy County Commissioner of Embakasi North, and the Office of Children’s Rights. The procession brought together children, caregivers, civil servants, and local leaders to advocate for the protection and empowerment of vulnerable children.

In his address, the Director called upon members of the community to “join hands in helping children enjoy their rights by supporting rehabilitation programmes and ensuring children are safe and supported within their homes and communities.”

Representatives from the Office of Children’s Rights emphasized their commitment to child welfare, urging children to reach out whenever in need. “Our office is always ready to offer the necessary support,” they assured.

Support from the Dandora Leadership

Also present were leaders managing the nearby Dandora dumpsite, who pledged to work closely with NKRPT and other child protection agencies to eliminate child labour in the area. They committed to ensuring that all children currently working at the dumpsite are identified, rescued, and brought to safety.

About Napenda Kuishi Rehabilitation Programme Trust (NKT)

NKT is a faith-based rehabilitation initiative founded and operated by the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus. The programme is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating teenage boys who are affected by street life, drug and substance abuse, and behavioural disorders.

The Trust operates four key centres:
